About the material
Calcium stearate is the calcium salt of stearic acid, CAS 1592-23-0, a metallic soap melting at roughly 147–149°C. Long fatty chains attached to a calcium centre make it waxy and water-repellent, and cause it to migrate to surfaces and interfaces where it lowers friction.
Calcium stearate can also function as an acid scavenger and co-stabiliser, helping neutralise hydrogen chloride released during thermal degradation of PVC. It is commonly used as part of stabilisation systems to support thermal stability and colour retention during processing.
