About the material
Field latex typically contains around one-third rubber by weight. Through centrifugation, it is concentrated to approximately 60% dry rubber content (DRC) for commercial use. DRC is a key specification for concentrated natural rubber latex, alongside parameters such as total solids, alkalinity, viscosity and mechanical stability.
Ammonia is used to preserve and stabilise natural rubber latex during storage and transportation. High-ammonia (HA) latex uses a higher ammonia level for preservation, while low-ammonia (LA) latex uses a reduced ammonia level together with additional preservatives to maintain stability.
The choice is a processing decision, not a quality ranking. High ammonia keeps longest and is the safer default over long sea freight; low ammonia saves the de-ammoniation step before compounding, which matters on a dipping line.
