About the material
EDTA tetrasodium salt is CAS 64-02-8, molecular formula C10H12N2Na4O8 and molecular weight approximately 380.2. It is a white crystalline solid, freely soluble in water, which is what distinguishes the tetrasodium salt from the free acid in practical formulation.
It works by chelation, forming stable complexes with metal ions. Sequestering calcium, magnesium and other divalent and trivalent metals stops those ions interfering with a reaction or a surfactant system, and improves the stability and shelf life of a finished formulation.
